Magdalene Weiss

Magdalene Weiss has been a partner at Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp), an international architectural company based in Hamburg, since 2021 and has headed its Shanghai office since 2004. After studying in Kassel and Stuttgart, she joined gmp as a graduate architect in 1997, playing a role in the design of the Swissôtel Berlin project on Kurfürstendamm. Over the years, Weiss has led many prestigious building projects in China, including: the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center; the Suzhou Sports Park; the Changzhou Cultural Center; the Caohejing Xinzhou Mansion; and the Poly Greenland Plaza, Shanghai. She has also overseen several major urban planning projects in which holistic sustainable design principles were prioritised, such as Zhangjiang Science City, Lingang Special Area and Xuhui West Bund.
