China Time

Consisting of two days packed with events and attractions spanning education, culture and science, CHINA TIME WEEKEND brings a rich and varied programme to Hamburg over November 26 and 27, offering something for everyone.

The key focus will be a wide-ranging knowledge-exchange initiative between China and Hamburg covering education and related areas. Schools, clubs and associations will present a variety of cross-border projects, while workshops will offer Hamburgers useful insights into Chinese culture. A diverse range of artistic and musical contributions will round off the programme. Registration is not required.

November 26, noon – 7pm: Focus on Education

Noon

Opening speech by a Hamburg Senate representative. 

Presentation by the Hamburg high schools, Christianeum and Marienthal. 

Insights into Chinese lessons at Hamburg schools. 

Musical performances by the singing group “Ode to Joy”, under the direction of Youling Gu.

1pm

Panel of experts: reports by specialists Oliver Radtke, Rui Rui Zhou and Enrico Cortes.

 2pm

Presentation of an HH-SH online student exchange project by representatives from Ida Ehre School, Gymnasium Walddörfer and Gymnasium Lerchenfeld.

 3pm

Presentations by representatives from Chinese-German and Chinese clubs and associations in Hamburg, including the Chinese-German Society Hamburg, Hamburg China Society and the Society for German-Chinese Understanding EV.

Workshops on Chinese culture: Chinese chess, calligraphy, silhouette art and Chinese horticulture.

German-Chinese afternoon of song with Meili Li and Anna Herbst.

Poetry slam on the topic of climate

Lecture on Chinese wine culture with wine-tasting by Qiuyi Chen and Gerd Rindchen in the teahouse.

November 27, 1pm – 7.30pm: Focus on Climate

Climate scientist Prof. Jiang Ping holds talks with representatives of the Hamburg Climate Cluster “Climate, Climatic Change and Society” at the University of Hamburg.

Results of the Confucius Institute Hamburg‘s photo competition on the topic of climate.

Supporting performance by the German-Chinese pop-rock band “Sign!”.

4pm

Afternoon of Chinese film, with screening of the theatre project “Medea”, including video introduction by director Sun Xiaognag.

Film workshop with dramatist Li Kou-Vesper.

 5pm

Closing event, with performances from members of Hamburg’s German-Chinese community. Audiences will be treated to displays of traditional Chinese costumes, choral singing and dance performances, among other attractions.
